Traffic statistics privacy

Applies to: RitesDev Ecosystem (ritesdev.dev/~)
1. Your Privacy Matters
At RitesDev, we believe you should have control over your personal information. We collect only the information needed for the purposes explained in this notice, and our optional website statistics are turned off by default.
This notice explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices available to you.
2. You’re in Control
You can choose whether to allow us to collect optional website statistics through Privacy choices on either website.
- Allow statistics: Lets us collect limited information about your visits.
- Reject statistics: Prevents us from collecting your information for optional statistics.
- Change your mind: You can update your choice at any time.
Your decision will never affect your ability to use our websites.
We also respect browser privacy signals, including Global Privacy Control and Do Not Track, which take priority over a previous decision to allow statistics.
3. What We Collect and Why
If you allow statistics, we may temporarily collect:
- Your IP address: A network address associated with your internet connection.
- Your approximate location: Your country and state or region, when available.
- Visit time: The UTC time when our server receives an eligible page request.
- Page visited: The page’s pathname, such as
/blog/. Query strings and fragments are excluded.
We use this information to understand website traffic, approximate visitor locations, and which pages are visited. With your permission, the private statistics dashboard can show page visits and times grouped by retained IP address across RitesDev and Blog.
Approximate country and state or region information is resolved locally using IP Geolocation by DB-IP, City Lite data licensed under CC BY 4.0. The lookup does not send your address to a geolocation service. Regions remain unknown when the local data cannot be matched, and may describe a network or VPN exit rather than your physical location.
We may assign temporary numbers to IP addresses for our statistics dashboard. These numbers are not individual visitor accounts, and multiple people may share the same IP address.
We do not use this information for advertising, building personal profiles, identifying individual visitors, or tracking activity on other websites. Our optional statistics do not retain user-agent strings or referrer information.
This expanded notice requires a new Allow choice before we collect optional statistics, including visit times and pages. An Allow choice under the previous notice does not authorize the expanded collection; a previous Reject choice remains rejected.
We may also maintain separate basic request counts and automated bot statistics. These counts are kept separate from our optional visitor statistics and do not record individual browsing histories.
4. How Long We Keep Information
We keep optional visitor statistics for no longer than seven days under normal operation. Records may be removed sooner.
If you withdraw permission, we stop collecting new optional statistics from subsequent requests. Information already collected is not automatically deleted, but it remains subject to the seven-day retention limit.
You can contact us to request earlier deletion. Because IP addresses can be shared, we may need to confirm that a request concerns your information before taking action.
5. Cookies and Website Services
We use a small cookie to remember whether you allowed or rejected optional statistics.
This cookie:
- Remembers your choice for up to 180 days.
- Does not contain your visitor statistics or dashboard number.
- Can be cleared through your browser settings.
Our websites use Cloudflare to help deliver pages securely. Cloudflare and our hosting infrastructure process website requests separately from our optional statistics system and may maintain their own technical logs. The seven-day limit described above does not necessarily apply to those records.
We do not use an additional browser-based pageview tracker for our optional statistics.
If your browser or our privacy preference service cannot save your choice, the website remains accessible, and optional statistics stay disabled unless a valid permission preference already exists.
6. Your Privacy Rights
You may contact us to:
- Request access to personal information we hold about you.
- Request corrections or deletion of your information.
- Ask questions about how your information is used.
- Withdraw permission for future optional statistics.
We handle privacy requests in accordance with applicable laws and take reasonable steps to protect other visitors’ information.
Depending on where you live, you may have additional privacy rights, including the right to contact your local data protection authority. This includes applicable authorities in the European Union, the United Kingdom, and California.
We provide the same optional statistics choices to visitors regardless of location.
